Apple is a mutated Human from and area known as The Arm on a version of Earth. She was born with mutated cells that could be exploited and altered under very specific conditions to give her enhanced abilities unnatural to any human. The government of The Arm captured her and ran their experiments, hoping to replicate them into a more useful person within their military or police force. However a mass break-out of mutated humans allowed her, and her younger sister Plum, to escape. Originally named Verity Rosebud, and Plum was Charity Rosebud, they adopted their new nicknames as a guise against detection. Mutants were declared illegal and the New Paris Police Department was brought in to deal with them. A special detection squad was set up to find them and bring them in, Valentine Fellin and Genichi Kasuse were two of the officers in that unit. During one chase, the officers had Apple cornered on the roof of a building and Valentine gave chase until they both ultimately fell to their supposed deaths. However rather than die they were transported through time and space into the bizarre world known as The Napping Cat's Dream. Apple was soon employed by Skrai, becoming involved in his plans for conquest. However when she tried to back out, she was deemed dangerous and The Imperium tried to kill her. Forever after she worked against Skrai, once sabotaging The Rapine and meeting Mesostim Antodea during a 'field trip'. Later she would join a rebellion against Skrai, aiding them to break free of their cells on the Dream Space Station.

The humans of Apple's universe are known to use all manner of 'high-tech' upon themselves, from chips to instant facial reconstruction. Clothing that changes colour whilst wearing it and beam weapons able to slice through metal. However the majority of such things are reserved for persons of authority, police or military. Yet, someone has to be the guinea pig. Along with many others, Apple was a homeless person taken in and experimented on. The Arm, the portion of the world that Apple lived on, was renowned for lowlifes and few would miss the homeless there. These humans became "mutated humans", their very genetic coding altered in exact and specific ways. Whilst there were various experiments carried out, resulting in different affects, the only batch to escape where those that could turn invisible. These mutated humans became outlaws from the moment they escaped and were hunted down by the police and other government agencies.

Characteristics

Personality

A one-time thief, then assassin and now mercenary. Apple's prime concern is herself. Her one true ambition is survival. She is sly, cunning and mischievous. One military general once described her as a tactical genius and would have feared the day he faced Apple in battle had she pursued a military career. Her knack for deceit has gained her a great deal of notoriety in many underworlds throughout the Multiverse and many others fear her. She is, however, also prone to vengeance, a flaw that twisted itself into a crusade against The Imperium and Skrai. Fortunately she is also patient and able to make long-term goals, returning many years later to enact her revenge on a complacent target. And yet, despite this practical, methodical and cool calculating mind, Apple is socially loud, abrasive and rash. She will strive to make a scene and stand out in public and often seeks attention from those around her. She is also susceptible to alcoholism. In the years after escaping the demise of The Napping Cat's Dream, Apple took on various big contracts and earnt a great deal of wealth, which she spent on pleasure. Indulging in this lifestyle, she drank and drank until she was a pauper again. She eventually regulated the habit, however depression or frustration can easily lead to a relapse. She is also known to be a frequent smoker, though not yet a chain-smoker.

Appearance

Apple has dark brown skin and a strong, athletic body. She is well-toned, but her physical focus is cardio-based, giving her a slender form rather than a pronounced body-building physique. Her eyes were originally brown and her hair dark brown, however she restyled herself after escaping the laboratories to make herself appear more menacing amongst the underworld populace. However her latest fashion has come about due to years away from her homeworld, able to move amongst towns and cities without being spotted by suspicious police officers. Her hair is grey at its roots turning to white, with plenty of bright red streaks throughout. She wears it in a very unique style, shaved around the sides of her head then split into two 'halves'. All very long, the front part of her hair strikes upwards, supported by plenty of hair spray and a bandanna that covers the shaved area of her scalp and fashions the split. The rear of her hair is a coiled tangled mess extending down to the centre of her back. She also changed the colour of her eyes, giving the brown a tint of red. This alteration is subtle, only noticeable in those paying close attention to her eyes.

Clothing-wise, she wears little. The less extra baggage, the better the invisibility she can maintain. When naked she is entirely obscured from view, but the more and more she needs to turn invisible the more transparent she becomes instead. Thus, she wears a pair of small blue denim 'hot-pants', tattered and torn about the legs. She wears a T-shirt that is cut just above the stomach and has a very low cut at the rear, exposing most of her back. It is complete around the bottom of the T-shirt but also as a small string tie about the neck. She wears a pair of thick grey socks and a pair of rough, worn and tattered boots that seem ill fitting. This is so that she can ditch the boots at any given notice, while the socks are thick enough to protect her feet from general debris from the floor or ground.

Powers

Apple is able to become invisible. Like any other bodily function controlled by the mind, Apple can switch it on and off at a whim. This is a biological characteristic and isn't affected by technology or magick. The process takes a quarter of a second to shift, in which time the skin can be seen to 'ripple' like water before settling in its new invisible state. However she can also extend this physical change to the molecules of other objects, so long as her own skin is in contact with the object. This is how she can become invisible wearing clothes. However to affect the molecules of an outside entity, Apple must exert herself. She once described it as "the difference between raising your arm and heavy lifting". The larger the object the more difficult. The complexity of the object also affects her ability to alter its physical state, meaning she would find it easier to turn a teddy bear invisible than a cat. She can become almost entirely invisible when wearing her usual outfit, however even this isn't quite perfect. Only when naked can Apple achieve perfect invisibility, so that even those with extraordinary vision (and expressly searching for her) cannot see even the faintest trace of her outline. When wearing her clothes, only someone keenly staring around the room would be able to make out a faint ghostly image. She has found that she can carry a few small items and maintain a level of transparency that the majority of people will not notice.

Possessions

Wrist Crossbow

Given to her as payment for a job, Apple has acquired a wrist-bound crossbow. It is small and fairly innocuous, appearing as a leather strap with a simple metallic vertical strip. However this strip is actually the two prongs of the crossbow, for which the wire becomes taught at the prongs' extension. Although she must manually load the dart-like bolts into the crossbow, they are fired by clenching the fist. A pressure sensor in the bow detects the flex and fires the loaded bolt. When no bolt is detected, the bow will not fire. This means the loading of the bow requires intent. However these bolts aren't meant specifically for killing. They are small and sharp and possibly deadly if fired into somewhere like the skull, they are merely sharp pains if fired into the back, chest or stomach. The bolts are laced with a potent chemical mixture designed to specifically work on human biology. Whilst this has led to some complications when using them on non-humans, the majority of standard humanoid species are susceptible to the drugs. The dose of just one bolt can act like a truth-serum, lulling a victim into a false sense of security and trust in those around them. If left like this, the person will eventually fall asleep and remember nothing of the encounter when awake. However a second dose, a second bolt, will normally instantly render the person unconscious for several hours. During this time, it is possible for some unfortunate victims to die or slip into a coma, however this is rare. A third dose is deadly. It will cause swelling in the throat and in the brain, both dumbing and silencing them before they eventually die of asphyxiation. A fourth bolt is designed to 'melt' the organic structure, liquidising the body making the victim harder to identify. However this stage is temperamental and doesn't always work, sometimes simply forcing out the water or blood of the body. It is also occasionally known to occur even after the first bolt, the body unable to handle the foreign compound in time, meaning hours after the first dose the victim could begin to physically melt.

Medallion

The medallion is of unknown origin and Apple is generally weary to use it. However it was given as payment for a job and it has proven its worth when required. Its affect is to speed up all mental and physical activities, from her movement speed to the mental processing speed. However it also increases the speed of standard bodily functions, meaning she will need the toilet sooner, need sleep sooner, etc. Another major disadvantage is from prolonged use, over half an hour. Eventually the brain will start to work too fast and will result in a seizure. If the medallion isn't removed during the seizure, she would die. Another minor disadvantage of the medallion is the queasiness after use as the body slows down, adjusting to normal breathing and the ache in the muscles. The idea is to use the medallion in short doses as an instant three-minute use. Apple believes that if a person could manage to function during prolonged use of the medallion, they would begin to age more quickly.

Dampener Pen

A technological device designed to affect technological sensors of all frequencies. Rather than creating a null field, which would be spotted, the small pen-like device acclimatises the user's area to that of their surroundings. This allows Apple to walk through sensors, laser tripwires, and is invisible on any kind of sensory scope or scan. However the pen doesn't allude the physical realm, meaning she is quite capable of being seen visually. This includes by cameras. However with her invisibility powers, this issue is moot. To use the device, a person must have it touching their skin as it will register with that person's biological make-up. Unfortunately it can only work,. therefore, on one person at a time.

Dampener Powder

The dampener powder acts much the same way as a dampening field for technology but for magick instead. It will acclimatise the user's area so that it reflects that of their surroundings. This only works against magickal detection fields, which are designed to pick up the physical or biological presence of others. As Apple has no magick, she cannot be detected on anything that detects the presence of magick. The powder is a chemical compound that reacts with the biology of the one who has it sprinkled onto their skin. This means it can be applied to multiple persons, allowing an entire group to go undetected. However there is a limited amount and Apple is generally unwilling to allow others to use it.
