The Dream Gate was a device originally created by the Ethereal named Nanas in order to escape the chaos of The Napping Cat's Dream. Some time later another Ethereal by the name of Skrai found the Dream Gate and began to use it to transport his new army across the Multiverse. Designed to produce portals, provided that the user has the necessary location data, the gate was hooked up to Skrai's Gate Network and eventually led him to the planet Odin and the Schola Draíochta. This sparked the Second Invasion, in which Syth Favardin used an explosive created by Fula and Reimi Soulstar to warp the Dream Gate and implode, destroying a huge portion of Skrai's military and take out his prime airship The Rapine. Some time earlier, Reimi Soulstar had also found the gate and had used it to create his own version, which he called the Web Way.

Capability

The Dream Gate is capable of opening up a portal to a set destination, provided that the co-ordinates are tapped into the device. The portal can be opened without destination codes, however the portals are likely to open up into anything and everything, including the middle of space. Specific codes can allow a user to travel to any exact location. It is also larger than the average portal, able to consume a small airship or large lorry.

History

In the Beginning

Creation

Originally commissioned by the Ethereal named Nanas, the Nightmare Gate was designed to allow her to escape the chaos of The Napping Cat's Nightmare; a period of dark history of The Napping Cat's Dream in which Skrai and Mortis ruled the land. She wished to flee the Nightmare world's influence and escape into the infinite Multiverse, leaving behind her home and her Ethereal siblings.

She managed to escape, using co-ordinates bought from another Multiverse traveller and used a space craft to position herself into the depths of space. No sooner had she travelled into this new universe than she ran into a group of space travellers and, in particular, the Kittora Nii known as Reimi Soulstar. She explained about the Nightmare and the gate she had used before disappearing into the vast cosmos. Intrigued by its potential, Reimi journeyed through the recent portal and found the Nightmare Gate.

However, shortly before Reimi's decision to travel into the Nightmare, another Ethereal named Amen had stalked Nanas for some time and made the decision to also travel through the gate. Due to the unusual nature of time in the Nightmare, however, Amen was transported to the same location as Nanas but in a completely different time era and thus he never caught up to her again.

Reimi, likewise, wound up travelling through the gate and arrived in a completely different era. The Nightmare was many centuries over and The Napping Cat's Dream had been restored.

In Search of Tairachi

Reimi intended to use the Nightmare Gate, which he renamed the Dream Gate, to find his homeworld Tairachi, from which he had been taken upon his birth. However, without the exact location details he couldn't yet travel there. Unable to take the whole gate by himself, he took down as much information as he could before seeking out a place to begin construction on his own version, which he named a Web Way. This Web Way didn't quite live up to the original gate, but it did also pave way to the eventual creation of the M.I.S.S. Bus.

Rediscovery

Other than Reimi Soulstar's imitation of the Dream Gate, the machine itself had remained untouched and unknown for centuries. It had been located in a barren desert, aimed to keep Nanas' intentions secret from her fellow Ethereals, and thus it wound up buried by much sand. That was until Skrai, reborn again after his previous death all those centuries ago, found it. Enthralled by its potential, expanding across the Multiverse having never crossed his mind before, he claimed it for himself and had it transported to his new installation Neko Island Fortress. Whilst there the device was under the care of Domie Neitrycks and was used by Skrai's military to gain access to many other worlds, the information for which was easily bartered from travellers.

The Dream Gate, once built to help Nanas escape the tyranny of Skrai, was now being used by that very same tyrant to spread his influence even further afield. Once conquered, a permanent portal system was set up in that location, linked by something called the Gate Network. This network of portals allowed for the easy transit between the many cities, countries and worlds that was considered under the banner of Skrai's Imperium.

Final Moments

The Dream Gate was used extensively by Skrai and The Imperium, transporting troops to many, many worlds and galaxies in the name of conquest. However the final act of invasion it would see was the attack upon the Valle Dei Mondi. It was kept in Skrai's main camp and maintained under a minimal guard, including Domie Neitrycks and the Squic Army. However a mission set by Berthus of Kreta sent two groups towards the camp, on was tasked to rescue the imprisoned Mistress Procellifer and the second was to destroy the Dream Gate using a device theorised by the student Fula and created by Reimi Soulstar, who understood the internal working of the gate itself. The device, however, had to be taken into the gate and activated. Syth Favardin had volunteered and carried out his duty with bravery. The subsequent implosion took out the entire camp, including The Rapine airship and many Squic troops. Skrai, who had been attacking Breja, returned to the camp in a last desperate attempt to save the gate but was taken out along with his army. This brought about the end of Skrai and the Second Invasion.

Main article: Skrai

Skrai is an Ethereal being originating from The Napping Cat's Dream, from where he expanded into the Multiverse and became a conqueror of countries, worlds and even galaxies. He was once the teacher for Summonings & Necromancy, however it was a ploy so that he could gain intelligence on the Schola Draíochta and, eventually, he invaded sparking a major war. He has many other characters in his employ, such as Dragão Geral de Caos, Emperor and Domie Neitrycks; all of which serve with unshakable loyalty, even in his absence. He believes in order through chaos and desires complete control, yet offers great rewards for this subservience.

Player Notes

The Dream Gate was simply created to allow Skrai an easy route through the Multiverse and open up new possibilities for his character and his empire. The whole back-story of attaching it to Nanas came much later and was done, largely, to make a much more intertwined story arc. The decision to destroy the Dream Gate wasn't even known by me initially, but it did provide a decent end to the Second Invasion so I allowed it to occur. Skrai's domain, after all, is no longer limited to the Dream Gate...
