The Fujin are a humanoid species from the planet Dagda, which they share with two other main subspecies, Ryujin and Raijin. The Fujin are very similar to the Raijin genetically, though they differ in appearance in several ways. They have tendrils, and long-pointed ears but they have no tails and their skin colours range through shades of green. They are also known to have semi-transparent skin that causes their red innards to show up in stark light. They have powers over aero magick and some psychic traits.

Homeworld

Main article: Dagda

The world of Dagda is a small Terran planet, consisting of oceans, great continents and varied forms of flora and fauna. It holds several sentient subspecies that all share a common ancestor, they are the Raijin, Fujin, Ryujin, Savitr, Mani and Svarog, each separated by racial defined boundaries and countries. The three most prominent subspecies reside on the northern bound continent and minor islands, whilst the others live on the gold rich southern continent, which has a much more inhospitable climate and terrain.

Biology

Appearance

Fujin are humanoid, possessing the simple two arms, two legs and a torso. However they are completely void of hair and in the place of head-hair they have a set of large tendrils which grow from the head and fall down in a similar fashion to hair except they are much thicker and made from fat and flesh. The Fujin tendrils are longer longer than any other subspecies on Dagda, reaching down to their ankles. This is believed to be the cause for the lack of tail when they evolved, as they are the only species on Dagda not to possess one. Their skin comes in varying shades of green, the darker shades typically being from the southern quarters of Anemoi, the land belonging to the Fujin people. Their ears are also elongated, similar to that of a drow, but are also 'upside down', similar, perhaps, to certain species of dog. Due to their shorter lifespans than most sentient species, Fujin mature at a much earlier age and are considered adults at ten years. Physically, and mentally, a ten-year-old would compare to a sixteen-year-old human.

Powers & Talents

Fujin have genetic-given power over aero. They can only generate aero, not manipulate the already existing element. They can generate aero in varying amounts, depending on the strength of each individual Fujin's genes. Some Fujin are hardly capable of creating and aero at all. Unlike the Raijin, the Fujin never took measures to increase the potency of the gene within their families, and so it is rare to get a Fujin of terrific power.

A smaller racial trait of certain Fujin is the control over powers of the mind. aero power is considered a standard feature of Raijin biology, however advanced mind powers are much rarer. All Raijin have a certain degree of telepathy and telekinesis, however, like the aero powers, it depends on the individual Fujin as how to powerful their mind talents are. Yet due to the lack of measures to harness this power, mental powers within the Fujin species are very minimal. The strongest Fujin in mental powers would only be comparable to an average level Raijin.

Biological Characteristics

Raijin, Fujin, Ryujin, Savitr, Mani and Svarog are all subspecies of Dagda. Capable of interbreeding, each subspecies is, however, very unique. Varying breeds of dog or cat would also be considered subspecies, for comparison.

Aero is generated by glands in a Fujin's arms and hands. Like adrenaline, aero can be generated instantly. Aero can be affected by the hormones of a Fujin, making any use of the element vary according to mood. Women can produce a great amount of aero during their menstrual cycles or even pregnancies, though men typically have larger glands meaning they can more regularly tap into the power. It is believed that this dependency on hormonal conditions was a natural function to help early Fujins depend themselves from other subspecies of Dagda and, in the case of women prominently, from each other.

If a Fujin should mate with another subspecies, such as a Raijin, the skin colour would depend upon whichever parent had the more dominant genes, as well as the physical characteristics. So far Fujin have only been able to breed with subspecies from their homeworld.

Mental powers, such as telepathy and telekinesis are inherent in all Fujin, growing in strength depending on its abundance in the parents. Like the aero heritage, mind powers are genetical and will always be stronger when both parents had power of their own. These mind powers are, however, quite rare and coveted by those that have them.

Society

Culture

The Fujin, having both the greatest sized populace and, by far, the largest country, dominate the world of Dagda culturally. The threat from outside influence on Fujin culture feels much less strained than that of the Raijin or the Ryujin, who place great emphasis on keeping up old traditions for fear of losing their identity. It is Fujin values that have become the 'universal' systems of Dagda.

Fujin society is rapidly progressing through a technological period of discoveries. The era of conquest has ended and instead a world of mutual benefit has arisen. Despite this there is still racial tension and the Fujin see themselves as the subspecies to lead Dagda, not because they are any better, but because they have 'done more'. They view the other subspecies of Hotei, the northern continent of Dagda, as being quaint, whilst those on the southern continent are seen as barbarians, or, at best, simple savages.

Fujin society revolves around materialism and consumerism. The populace are encouraged into this modern era through money and personal gain. However there is also a collective pride that falls upon discoveries through science and technology. Exploration has also begun as an upward trend, uncovering the strange foreign lands that belong to the minor subspecies of Dagda, bringing about fascinating discoveries such as the Mani Caves.

Despite the weakness of their powers, the Fujin can still utilise it and use their technology to manipulate the aero energy by containing it from donation centres and using it to power great wind turbines out in the southern ocean. They also use their weak psychic powers in teleportation devices, which hook onto the psychic wishes and amplify them so that the Fujin can teleport without having advanced talent.

One the whole Fujin society is quite liberal and free, yet wealth determines power and influence, as well as material wealth. But fame also features highly, and with fame comes money. Fame is often gained by those who work in science or explorers; those that advance the civilisation. However they have begun to form a cinema culture too and actors are also considered icons for Fujin society. Only the Fujin, as a people, have aspirations beyond their own borders and continent.

Technology

Comparative to Earth Prime, the technology of Dagda could be considered 'near future'. Certain technological advancements are orientated around the various uses of their powers, some designed to enhance them and some few to hinder them. Many electrical pylons exist in Parjanya to soak up unintentional discharge from the Raijin, whilst many Way Point machines exist throughout both Parjanya and Anemoi which allow those with even the smallest mental prowess to teleport themselves to another Way Point.

The Anemoi lead the way in technology, priding themselves on the great achievements of their scientists and selling their finds to the other factions, and even some of it to the Natives in exchange for maps of the Lost World and gold deposits.

The Ryu Isles are rather secluded from the rest of the world and are thus further behind in their technological advancement, however they have been known to buy technologies from Anemoi when their need is great.

Some other technological achievements include Lightning Gloves, which allow a Raijin to channel their electrical power through their hands, Laser Rifle, a rifle which is capable of firing a thin laser beam which tears straight through a person with pin-point precision, Wind Mast and Lightning Masts, devices for generating electrical power for buildings in Parjanya and Anemoi by taking even the smallest of effort from a Raijin or Fujin in terms of their power, triples it and churns it into the national grids.

The world of Dagda has an almost permanent connection to the Portal Grounds of the Schola Draíochta as they have discovered the mysteries of portal creation. However passage through portals is still restricted and is generally information for the elite of the Dagda world. Still exploring the worlds beyond their own and investigating implications of inter-dimensional travel upon their society, any opportunity to 'trial' a foreign world is taken. To this end, the government have sent a student to the school under the guise that she requires greater lectures than are available in Dagda whilst recording information on the school, its inhabitants and what functions the world could serve Dagda, if at all.

Government

The Fujin system of government is one of Constitutional Republic, having long ago overthrown its monarchy. Influencing the rest of the world with this free system of government, pressure was placed upon Parjanya and eventually the monarchy conceded into becoming a Constitutional Monarchy.

The government is run by a President, who is answerable to the people and the Senate. Both the President and the Senate are elected by the people of Anemoi. The country has a constitution, which guarantees certain rights of the populace so that they cannot be taken away regardless of presidential determination.

Class Structure

The class structures of old have died out and the Fujin are relatively free of class bonds. However wealth and fame form a core basis of class within the society. Those with either have the power to get what they want because everyone needs and wants money, whilst fame can be influential to other Fujins.

Language

In the past each country would have had their own language, however the Fujin language has become the common tongue for the whole of Dagda. Even the closed off Ryujin speak the Fujin language. However most subspecies still retain certain culturally specific words, or, as in the case of the Raijin, naming conventions. Place names also retain their original pronunciations, even if the spellings change to match the Fujin alphabet.

Player Notes

Although the Raijin were the main creation, I knew straight off that the Fujin and Ryujin existed too. I felt that they were important aspects to develop the Raijins as an interesting species to play.
