Characteristics
Personality
Procellifer acts in a very different way to how she feels. Inside, she is a relaxed and carefree demoness; broad-minded, tolerant and quicker to laughter than to rage. However, after years of rigorous training and programming by Rhiannon, she has been dissuaded from showing this relaxed side to her personality. Instead, she feels she has to show dignity and grace, with a straight spine and very little in the way of emotional body language. She occasionally talks like a bad epic poem, thanks to her mentor's training, but she doesn't find this as embarrassing as kicking back and letting her hair down.Powers
Procellifer has a myriad of psychic powers, including the power to create illusions, which she is very skilled at due to years of genteel training in the art. She can also perform very refined telekinesis and can teleport accurately up to her own body weight. She has a genetic power which Rhiannon labelled 'Darkness' and programmed her never to use again, but in her darkest hours it gets a mind of its own.
Story Line
Upbringing
Procellifer was summoned by Amazons using an ancient spell which had half of the words eroded by time. As a result of this, she arrived as an infant, and not as the fully-grown, subservient demon they were expecting. Having no way to send her back, the Amazons kept her, at first under lock and key, but as she grew and presented no threat they let her out to be with the other children. She was educated in the Amazon fashion, and was eventually allowed into the palace to be with the princesses, who would be her charges in later life.
She became such a regular feature in the palace, running around playing games with the little princesses, and later performing in athletic tournaments, that the Queen of the day, the young Androdaixa XII adopted her as an honourary daughter and baptised her as a true Amazon. Procellifer never uses her Amazon name, but it's highly unlikely she's forgotten it.
Once Androdaixa XII died, Procellifer, as eldest 'daughter' of the former Queen, was offered the crown, but declined, preferring a background role, and not wishing to take the throne away from the true Amazon bloodline. Instead, the crown passed to Androdaixa XIII and Procellifer took up the post of Royal bodyguard, which she held for a further eighty years.
Androdaixa XVI was only newly crowned when a fleet of ships came from across the sea, crewed by humans of lesser stature and strength. They expressed admiration at the great Amazon society, and brought with them exotic gifts of furs and iron. Androdaixa accepted gracefully, and despite Procellifer's misgivings she invited the guests to a feast.
During the feast, the rest of the fleet, which had been hidden from view, came into port and began systematically exterminating Amazons. Procellifer was sent to the harbour as soon as the alarm was raised, under Androdaixa's orders. By the time she realised who was invading, she was too late. She arrived back to the palace to find the Queen and all the Princesses had been slaughtered, along with their attendants. This failure to protect her charges has haunted Procellifer her whole life.
The invaders remaining in the palace set about subduing Procellifer, which was a far more difficult task than they'd envisioned. Chained and muzzled, she still fought and killed a great number of her captors, without any regard for her own survival. Even once fully restrained, there was no way to subdue the raging demon, so her captors threw her into a cage and transported her across the sea, occasionally baiting her, or throwing prisoners into her cage for entertainment.
Korine
Procellifer, still in her cage and largely insensate, was toured around various freak shows, where she was again baited, pitted against fierce animals, whether from her homeland, or native to Korine. It wasn't hard for her to escape - after a few months of fighting bears, she broke out in the night and fled across the Korine countryside.
The Queen of Kori called a hunt of the strange demon creature that had been brought from across the sea, as Procellifer began to make a habit of terrorising farmsteads, killing the adults but sparing the children. Most of the knights and mages of the court set off on the quest, including Rhiannon, the head mage. Procellifer steered clear of the knights in their iron armour, and the stronger mages warded themselves well against attack, so the quest remained unsuccessful for months.
Rhiannon, though, was cunning. She presented herself as a vulnerable target to Procellifer, but not too vulnerable to be of no interest. Procellifer easily overcame her by sheer brute strength, and began to drink her blood in triumph. As she did so, Rhiannon cast a spell on her blood to bind Procellifer to her will. The demon was powerless, having brought it on herself. Rhiannon brought her back to court as a docile pet.
The Queen of Kori was immensely pleased, and rewarded Rhiannon handsomely. Procellifer became a joke of the court, as, under the Queen's suggestions, she was dressed and styled as a Lady-in-Waiting, to be presented with the other débutantes in five years' time.
Three years at Korine finishing school followed, with Procellifer's size, looks and strength singling her out amongst the slender pale blossoms of the aristocratic families. Under the complete control of Rhiannon, she was powerless to vent her fury at the giggles and taunts.
The Napping Cat's Dream
After three painful years of finishing school, Procellifer was sent to the Napping Cat's Dream, as Rhiannon thought it would be valuable for her to experience diverse cultures and learn to be more ladylike away from the nobles, who were hardly able to act maturely in the presence of Procellifer. The demoness was provided with money, servants and transport, and allowed to travel at will, but al the while under the watchful eye of Rhiannon. It was here that she met Phemus and her beloved Lonski, in the hotter climes of the Dream. The hold Rhiannon had over her weakened, and she was able to enjoy herself. It was possibly the only time since her childhood that she had allowed herself to be happy. In the end, she crossed Rhiannon's boundaries of 'propriety' once too often, and was summoned back to Korine.
The Valle Dei Mondi
Procellifer was freed from her imprisonment by the death of Rhiannon, three years later, but her programming was so instilled that she wasn't entirely back to her old self. Nevertheless, she was driven from Korine with great ceremony, lest she turn back into the beast that ravaged the countryside years ago. Hounded so she could not rest, she collapsed, exhausted, on the site of the Schola, in the borderlands between worlds.
She was nursed back to health by a tribe of dwarves which lived in the maze of catacombs beneath the ground. Despite her size, they warmed to her, utilising her strength in their mining industry, and listening avidly to her stories of the hot jungles she had grown up in.
The First Invasion
Something about Procellifer's arrival had disturbed the nature of the portals of the Valle. They began opening more consistently onto human realms, spitting out refugees from the invasion, before, seventeen years after Procellifer's arrival, the human army itself marched out of the portals and onto the Valle. Unable to penetrate into the dense catacombs of the dwarves, they laid siege to all of the area, stopping the dwarves from getting out and harvesting their crops.
The siege lasted for almost five years before Procellifer managed to coerce the dwarves into fighting back against the invaders. She directed them in a series of hit-and-run attacks, taking place mainly at night, which resulted in heavy casualties on the human side. Eventually, the army was so weakened that, in one final charge, the dwarves drove them back through their portal and sealed the way back by magic.
The Schola Draíochta
Procellifer was crowned Queen of the Valle Dei Mondi shortly after the final battle with the humans, and six years later ordered the construction of a castle to act as a stronghold should war come again. Within five years, thanks to dwarven skill, it was completed.
The castle only became the Schola, as it is today, as the population of the Valle grew. When it no longer became possible to house every refugee in the castle, the decision was made to set up a village in the heart of the valley, but to keep the children inside the castle for added safety. When it became apparent that schooling was required, Procellifer hired teachers from the community, and the Schola was born.
As headmistress, Procellifer has not had much time to socialise and pursue leisure activities outside of her job. She has been encouraged to let her hair down a few times, with the arrival of Phemus, but still retains her strict sense of responsibility and duty.
