The world of the Never-ending Story, known better as the NeS, is an existence bound by the Meta-Story and centers around a variant of Earth. It is primarily made up of humans, but also includes such sentient beings such as robots, gods, talking animals, and incarnations of concepts, including the NeS itself. Due to the nature of the NeS, it is very difficult to define specifics, at least for any length of time. It is also victim of regular villainous attacks, rendering the necessity for NeS Heroes, as well as Plot-hole attacks. The likes of Gebohq and MaybeChild were trained to be heroes at the Never-ending State Univerity.

Contents

Geography

Continents

This fantasy Earth is nearly identical to our real Earth in terms of its physical make-up. It is divided into the continents of Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe, and Australia (though it may be more accurate to classify North and South America as one American continent, as well as Europe and Asia as Euraisa).

However, there was once also another ancient, small, and once famous continent and country called Atlantis, but is now nothing but ruins at the bottom of the ocean.

Flora & Fauna

Besides that which can be found normally, plant life can also include stranger qualities as well, including the ability to talk and move whatever is not rooted into the ground.

The Metaphysical Realms

Hell

Divided up into ten circles, Hell is where most of the sentient mortal beings end up when they die. It is ruled by whomever is the most evil denizen there, and operates on a strange notion of time. However the term "Hell" often refers to one very specific circle, that which is the most tangible for those living upon Earth. Canada.

Sentients

Humans

See also: Human

The humans of this world tend to be more forgetful, due to the nature of the NeS. In every other facet they tend to be very similar to the modern-day mankind of Earth, commonly obsessed with mundane, petty issues such as material wealth, personal gain and their own bubble of bliss. Unfortunately, those that get wrapped up in affairs of the NeS Heroes tend to find their existences forever changed. The humans also tend to fall between a range of awareness of the Meta-Story, with those very aware of the Meta-Story, its implications and their function in the Meta-Story, and those completely unaware of it, denying such things exist and trying to live 'normal' lives free of the NeS turmoil.

Robots

The modern robots, often taking humanoid form, rose in population during the early to mid-twentieth century. Like most non-humans, robots share an arguably lower level of rights. They take on various forms and designs, from standard appliances, to more advanced mechanoids such as Galvatron, able to changes shape, size and build, from a tiny robot to a gigantic machine. However, being a robot, doesn't necessarily bless them with computer-speed brain processing. In fact, many are just as stupid as humans.

Gods

See also: Gods

Various gods of mythological origin exist in the world of the NeS, such as the Greek gods of old, including Ares. These gods are as fickle and self-interested as any human, or robot, though they do tend to wield far more power to boot. They are often bored and reckless and enjoy toying with the lives of mortals, whether indirectly or directly (as with Ares). There are few that would directly challenge the gods, save other gods. They are not especially worshipped, however, and the title of 'god' seems to be more a reflection of their ability rather than their official status.

Politics

Countries

Canada

At the start of the 21st century, Canada's Parliament moved to have their country become part of Hell, and thus became the ninth circle. Canada's Prime Minister is known as High Imp. The NeS Heroes themselves are on friendly terms with the government of Canada, and Hell, often seeking aid from them. The presence of Hell on Earth seems not to have shaken too many minds as the whole process of Canada's new identity was performed diplomatically. In fact, many Americans find their new neighbours much more agreeable. Nobody knows now whether Hell has frozen over because Canada resides in it.

Japan

Home of one of the largest reconstruction contractors, due to the number of giant monsters that destroy their cities. Japan is, otherwise, generally similar to the real Japan of Earth, existing in the 'Far East' and being referred to as the Land of the Rising Sun.

United States of America

Home of the Never-ending State University, and at one point, The Arena. It is also the birthplace of Gebohq and the location of Disneyland, one of the most feared and loved places on the planet. The USA is largely similar to that of Earth, though with significantly more tolerance for 'weird stuff' happening to them.

Great Britain

The capital of Great Britain, London, was once home of the Hall of Heroes, contained within Big Ben. It is also the ancestral home of Gebohq's family during the nineteenth century. Otherwise both London and the rest of Great Britain are similar to the real world versions of Earth.

Government

TBA.

Major Cities

London

Once home of the Hall of Heroes contained within Big Ben and the nineteenth century ancestors of Gebohq and Losien Simon. The city, whilst largely identical to the real world London, has many exaggerated features that enforce its clichés, stereotypes and overall "Britishness" as though it were being used in an American film, or a Meta-Story. When the Hall of Heroes was attacked, London became a scene of darkness as the sky swirled and dangerous winds were cast down upon the old city in any typical epic-and-doom scenario.

Manufactured Landmarks

Disney World

An amusement park in Flordia that was bought out by an evil genius and turned as a front for his evil schemes. Since then it has become both loved and feared, not quite detracting the punters from buying tickets and taking the rides. The evil forces of Disney World have been engaged in a war with the forces of Hell (Canada).

Stonehenge

An ancient formation of rocks found in England, once served as a battleground for the NeS Heroes. It is also a location of a secret chamber that contains knowledge of the Meta-Story and how to wield it in a character's favour, a secret knowledge passed down only to those worthy.

Big Ben / Hall of Heroes

The Hall of Heroes was once the focal point for the NeS Heroes, hidden within the towering landmark of Big Ben. However it was ruined and destroyed by an attack of multiple enemies to the NeS Heroes. Ominous swirling clouds, dangerous winds and giant plot holes combined to bring down the Hall of Heroes and render the NeS Heroes homeless.

Never-ending State University

The American-based Never-ending State University is where many NeS Heroes studied to become heroes, trained in many special art forms and tactics that would lead them to successful adventuring. The University itself was founded by one of Gebohq's ancestors, yet he was treated just as any other student earning their doctorate in "Heroism". Others that attended include MaybeChild and Galvatron.

The Arena

The Arena is owned by the God of War, Ares. He has the rights to televise the combat and duels that take place in the grand coliseum. He regularly intervenes in matches to increase the viewer rating and, therefore, earn himself more cash. The current Arena is, in fact, its second incarnation after the first one of flattened between a rock and a hard place (an asteroid and a space ship to be more exact).

Gebohq

Main article: Gebohq

Gebohq is a professional freelance hero from a variant of Earth, which exists within the greater world of the Never-ending Story that is bound by the Meta-Story. His complete name is Gebohq Joseph Anne-Marie Simon, and his first name was given to him from a random pull of Scrabble pieces, whilst his sister, Losien October Simon, received her first name from a Ouija board. As a hero of the NeS, the common abbreviation of the world name, Gebohq was a member of a "hero group" which included his romantic interest Maybechild. As part of this band of heroes, Gebohq traveled as far as The Ninth Level of Hell (Canada) and The Arena™ and fought against the likes of the Ever-ending Plot and Ares. The Last True Evil, often known simply as TLTE, is something of a rival to Gebohq, acting both the role of villain and anti-hero. Gebohq took a major role during the Second Invasion of the Valle Dei Mondi by taking on the lead invader, Skrai, and saving the life of Astara Virgo.

Player Notes

The NeS can be treated like Gaia in that it is not only a location, but also treated as a character and something of a religion among certain characters. The Never-ending Story itself is a forum that has a series of writers, rather than posters or players, that all collaborate to write sections of the story with do distinction between ownership of characters or storylines.
