The Other Portal

The Other category is a list of pages that don't quite fit into any of the main articles of The Schola Wiki. These might include 'theory' pages or 'explanation' pages. 'Subjects' is a list of the class subjects studied at the Schola Draíochta, both old and new. 'Organisations' is a list of groups, clubs, gatherings, sets or organisations either from the Schola itself or beyond. 'Magick Systems' refers to the various systems of magick employed by different characters. These pages are explanations of 'how it works' for their specific character. 'Non-Magickal Systems' are the same kind of pages but they refer to functions that are not specifically magickal in nature. The 'Events' option leads to a list of major Events during the Schola Story. 'Role-Play Theory' are discussion articles designed to provoke thoughts on Role-Playing and forum-based systems.

Main article: Portals

A portal is a 'gateway' that allows access between worlds, universes, dimensions or time periods. They are created through many diverse methods from the technological to the magickal to the natural. Some are controlled, stable and expected, whilst others can be considered 'tears' in 'space-time'. Most portals, within Schola canon, are considered to be Bugs, an ethereal creature that takes on some kind of corporeal form depending on the race of Bug. Many utilise Bugs without even knowing it because only Bug Masters can see their true forms. Portals allow travel across the Multiverse and tend to congregate in large numbers around the Portal Grounds.

Theory

What is it?

Portals are common plot devices used in many science fiction or fantasy stories, either as a major plot element or as an inconsequential and convenient function. They are holes in time-space that allow easy travel from one place to another, breaking the barriers that confine time and space; it allows a character to travel either through time or across entire galaxies or, even, the Multiverse. They are normally stationary tears and can be used by anyone willing to pass through. They can appear in a variety of aesthetics, from 'windows', showing the world beyond, to swirling masses of colour with no discernible presence upon the other side. They are similar to the theory of Wormholes.

Subjects

Applied Cryptozoology

Main article: Applied Cryptozoology

Applied Cryptozoology is a curricular class taught at the Schola Draíochta. Taught in the Schola Menagerie of non-sentient animals, it is a fairly well-attended class, but suffers a little from having only one member of staff. Whilst there is plenty of practical aspects to the lesson when utilising the Menagerie, there is also a lot of theory based work as not all creatures are safe to have around students or easy to take care of in captivity. This lesson does not just deal with the care of these creatures but also the advanced biology and habitual study of wild animals.

Art Club

Main article: Art Club

Art Club is an extra-curricular activity run by Berthus of Kreta. Students are encouraged to use any medium they find appropriate to express their creativity, including paint, clay, wood, metal or plain old pen and ink. It is a well-attended club, which most student members use for socialising. The room in which the club is held is specifically dedicated to art due to the very messy nature of the subject. There is room for very special artistic outlets, however, such as 'mind painting' or 'mechanical art', however the subject is mostly designed to cater towards the more standard art forms that exist across the Multiverse.

Battle Magick & Gym

Main article: Battle Magick & Gym

Battle Magick & Gym is a curricular class taught at the Schola Draíochta. Delivered in a series of practical lessons in the Schola's expansive Quintana, the teaching styles are varied and provide a constant challenge to students. This is also the subject in which there is the most potential for accidents. One of the medical staff is often on call in the Infirmary during Battle Magick & Gym sessions. During one particular session, Vann Distrid wound up destroying a significant portion of the Quintana itself straight after the powers of Taranis and Lonski were also unleashed in an unstable fashion. Two of the lesson's teachers took part in the Second Invasion with great significance, including Ellechim Epia who joined Skrai and Syth Favardin who gave his life to destroy the invading army.

Elemental Magicks

Main article: Elemental Magicks

Elemental Magicks is a curricular class taught at the Schola Draíochta. It was once three separate subjects, Manipulation of Lightning, Manipulation of Fire and Manipulation of Water and Ice, however the decision was made to turn it into one class at which the various elemental disciplines became optional modules. One of the broadest subjects and yet each specialisation holds very similar principles, meaning a specialist in air magick could easily teach fire magick in its basics. One of the most important teachers of this subject is Isis Ve'ilyera who is one of the greatest suppliers of electricity to the Schola castle.

History & Mythology

Main article: History & Mythology

History & Mythology is a curricular class taught at the Schola Draíochta. Delivered through a number of field trips and practical lessons, this class gives students a 'feel' for the cultures of the worlds being studied. The topic of language, taught by Aislynn Ceridwen, was once a separate subject called Modern Languages but it was felt it would be best to merge it into the already existing History & Mythology subject. This is a subject that is mostly theory based, however it also has one of the most practical aspects in the form regular field trips, taking the students away from the Schola and across the Multiverse in the M.I.S.S. Bus, a vehicle able to travels through its own self-created portal.

Homework Club

Main article: Homework Club

Homework Club is an extra-curricular activity designed to give struggling students a little extra help with their sometimes complex Schola work. The sessions are held in the Library, with Liora the librarian on hand to offer assistance to students who are a little lost in the library. This club is surprisingly well-attended, although many students use it for socialising and group-work instead of solitary study. The Club was once run by Father Phemus Reginald Smite, however he was killed during the Second Invasion.

Music and Dance Club

Main article: Music and Dance Club

Music and Dance Club is an extra-curricular activity revolving around the expression of creativity through sound and movement. The two were once separate clubs of Music Club and Dance Club, but have been merged in the spirit of building stronger community feeling in the Schola Draíochta.

Philosophy Club

Main article: Philosophy Club

Philosophy Club is an extra-curricular activity run by Thoth, the History & Mythology tutor. Depending on the incarnation Thoth is in at any one time, Philosophy Club can have radically different proceedings from one time to the next. The locations in which the Club is held varies lesson to lesson depends upon the 'atmosphere' that the tutor wishes to create for the mood of the session. This could even extend to being outside on the Schola Grounds in the rain or being down by The Lake or simply in the Library.

Practical Astronomy

Main article: Practical Astronomy

Practical Astronomy is a curricular class taught at the Schola Draíochta. It is delivered partly in the Schola's Observatory and partly with a number of interdimensional trips to other worlds with different constellations and planetary systems. Enthusiasts of the subject are encouraged to actively research the home solar system of Odin, the planet on which the Schola is based, especially with regards to the planet Frey which has unusual abnormalities of great interest to the astronomy staff.

Somatomancy & Anthomancy

Main article: Somatomancy & Anthomancy

Somatomancy & Anthomancy is a curricular class taught at the Schola Draíochta. It is delivered through a series of practical demonstrations, as well as more text-based theory lessons on medical practice and anatomy. The subject of Botany was once an individual subject but it was merged into Somatomancy due to their similarities and overlapping teachings. There is a significant portion of practical sessions involved with this class, both when learning about flora but also with healing sentient beings, which is done in the Infirmary often on willing subjects from Breja or unfortunate students that happened to be in the room.

Sophomancy

Main article: Sophomancy

Sophomancy is a curricular class taught at the Schola Draíochta. Sophomancy was once two separate subjects: Telepathy, Telekinesis and Clair-Senses and Divination, Precognition & Their Uses, however the decision was made to merge the two courses, and allow students to choose to follow a particular discipline based on their own range of mental powers. The teachers for the subject have remained a constant through this transition and continue to teach in their specialised fields. The lessons are often practical in nature, applying the taught theory to the physical realm. Precognition has the largest amount of written work as it can be the toughest to make clear sense or use of. The entire subject also has a large 'ethical' section of education due to the nature of such matters as mind-reading.

Summonings & Necromancy

Main article: Summonings & Necromancy

Summonings & Necromancy is a curricular class taught at the Schola Draíochta. Whilst this class has always seen interest from those on the 'darker' side of the morality spectrum, it remains on the syllabus to cater for those whose skills lie in this particular area and no other. During one lesson the Incubus known as Rufus was the willing practice summon. This was the first time he had seen his own son, Cinéad Ophiuchus, and had been requested to attend Cinéad's Parents Evening by Mistress Procellifer. The subject's former teacher, Skrai, betrayed the Schola after several months teaching and attempted to conquer the Valle Dei Mondi during the Second Invasion.

Swimming Club

Main article: Swimming Club

Swimming Club is an extra-curricular activity which utilises the wonderful natural resource of the Schola's perpetually warm lake. The club has no official structure - athletic students may swim lengths of the marked-off area if they wish, while less-athletic students can just paddle in the shallows. The supervisor for this club acts as a lifeguard more than a teacher. This Club can continue on through bad weather due to the warmth of the lake. It was once run by Father Phemus Reginald Smite, however he was killed during the Second Invasion.

Technomancy & Psychoportive Sciences

Main article: Technomancy & Psychoportive Sciences

Technomancy & Psychoportive Sciences is a curricular class taught at the Schola Draíochta. The sole province of genius Reimi Soulstar, Technomancy lessons rarely have any structure, instead careening off at odd moments to follow Reimi's whims. The former subject Modern Alchemy, which had also been taught by Reimi Soulstar, was swallowed up into this class due to the overwhelming similarities that rendered Modern Alchemy little more than a 'shortened' version of Technomancy sessions. One of the most significant running projects for the class revolves around C.O.D. machines, one of which each student owns and works upon. This subject is almost entirely practical with very little theory being involved save for memorising the practical applications.

Organisations

Æon

Main article: Æon

The Æon are a group of individuals dedicated to a specific branch of supernatural skill, similar to a wizard or witch is a disciple of magick. The system to manipulate these spirits is known as Pleroma and the Æon are devoted to its study. The signature weapon for an Æon warrior is the Ruhand, which consists of a hilt, a crystal and the energy beam that is a direct manifestation of the wielder's spirit. They are trained from very young ages when potential for spiritual manipulation is found within a child. They first learn martial skills and, more importantly, control. During this time an Æon is known as an initiate and wields a blade without colour (appearing silver). The colour of their ruhand changes when the become a fully-fledged Æon and the colour will represent its wielder's spirit. There are several institutes of Æon, one of which is the Order of Pneumata, which prides itself on vast study of Pleroma techniques. Although it is possible to learn Pleroma techniques without attending an organisation, they will never be acknowledged as a true Æon until they have been approved by one such organisation. When studying Pleroma, the Æon learn to manipulate their own spirits through 'internal technique' and others' through 'external technique', however there are no confines to the use of Pleroma. The techniques available are merely those that have been perfected and can be taught to others, new techniques are constantly being created by master Æon warriors.

Ex Draconis

Main Article: Ex Draconis

Ex Draconis. The world leader in Organic Construct creation, basically is a facility where creatures resembling dragons are grown. These Constructs are fully programmable to the customer's every need. As long as the customer is able to pay, of course. The sheer size of the Breeding facility is immense, the estate covering several dozens of square miles with towers that go up for several miles as well. Inside are the various laboratories, hatcheries, barracks and administrative buildings. Orignally from the The Napping Cat's Dream, they have relocated to a different world and have come in contact with The Imperium. As a part of the deal, Aureum (one if their failed experiments) has been given to The Imperium for further stabilizing tests.

The Imperium

Main article: The Imperium

The Imperium is a huge empire that spans across the Multiverse, occupying various regions of time and space. Due to its expansive nature and its presence across a great deal of the Multiverse, The Imperium might be considered 'infinite' in its nature. The empire was first created by the Ethereal being named Skrai upon a Multidimensional-hub called The Napping Cat's Dream, however upon the demise of the Dream Skrai progressed further into the cosmos until his empire began to grow of its own accord, occupying entire galaxies. Whilst Skrai rests at the peak of the pyramid, The Imperium operates largely as individual bodies under one name. The Gate Network is a portal link that establishes permanent connections between many of The Imperium's most significant locations, usually expanding trade between different planets across the Multiverse. Skrai, capable of occupying a new body if the first falls, is considered the continuing Overlord of The Imperium despite his supposed death during the Second Invasion. Yet, in his absence, the political structure of the empire is under threat as military and political ranked officers begin to vie for power. The two most senior officers are still Dragão Geral de Caos and Samantha Arrow, though the likes of Admiral Crius Ares and Termitan plot to take more power from these two 'favourites of Skrai'.

The Peacekeepers

Main article: The Peacekeepers

The organisation known as The Peacekeepers is a policing unit that spans the entire Multiverse. They have taken it upon themselves to balance out events that occur inter-dimensionally, trying to control or minimise damage and affects caused on cross-universe scales. This includes those wreaking havoc in more than one universe, empires spanning the Multiverse or simply irregular travel patterns. The Peacekeepers' mere existence causes many temporal disturbances alone, which the organisations attempts to control or diminish. The Peacekeepers have thousands of members from across the Multiverse, many of which are likely to meet alternate versions of themselves from both time and space. Some significant members include Portress and TheBritt2010.

Non-Magickal Systems

Multiverse

Main article: Multiverse

The Multiverse is the hyper-fictionalised mechanics of our Role-Play forum. It is the explanation for the presence of beings from strange worlds with opposing theories of physics and existence. All players have crossed through the Multiverse from their own worlds to land in the Valle Dei Mondi and attend the Schola Draíochta. The Valley, as the Valle Dei Mondi is commonly known, is a prime spot for portals, which converge on a location known as the Portal Grounds. It is this land that makes the Schola a perfect spot for an inter-dimensional magick school. It is also why the warlord Skrai caused the Second Invasion event. The Multiverse theory would also suggest that all forums exist alongside one another and, provided permission is granted or the nature of the other forum involves the Multiverse theory, then links can be made between them and ours, including the likes of Tairachi and The Napping Cat's Dream.

Pleroma

Main article: Pleroma

The Pleroma is a context word used to describe a specific fashion of supernatural techniques that revolve around the manipulation of the spirit. The study of Pleroma is undertaken by Æon warriors, who can focus their minds to provoke either internal techniques, manipulating their own spirit, or external techniques, which is the manipulation of others' spirits. Although there are no confines or specific 'spells' within the study of Pleroma, there are many tried-and-testing techniques that can be passed down to others, including the passing of one's spiritual energy into an Æon warrior's weapon, the Ruhand.

Events

Second Invasion

Main article: Second Invasion

The Second Invasion was a major event in the history of the Valle Dei Mondi, so-named due to the prior invasion which became known as the First Invasion. Even when compared to the previous attack on the Valley, the more common term for the Valle Dei Mondi, the Second Invasion was the darkest period in history for the land. Mistress Procellifer, Queen of the Valley and headmistress of the Schola Draíochta called for everyone able and willing to aid in the defence and protection of the Valley against the incoming forces of Skrai and The Imperium. During the brave defence of Breja, the Valley's only town, many lives were lost including Father Phemus Reginald Smite and Syth Favardin. In the end it was Syth Favardin's sacrifice that saved the Valley, destroying Skrai's camp, the Dream Gate, The Rapine and even Skrai in a fierce explosion using a bomb designed by Fula and Reimi Soulstar that utilised the very fabric of portals.
