The Schola Draíochta is a large stone castle situated in the Valle Dei Mondi, otherwise known as the Valley. It serves as both an inter-dimensional boarding school, and also as the castle of Mistress Procellifer, Queen of the Valley. The castle is known for its protective wards, the spacious Schola Grounds, mysterious Catacombs and even containing an Observatory as one of its thirteen towers.

Catacombs

Main article: Catacombs

The Catacombs are the dwarven-built tunnels that exist below the Schola Draíochta many decades before the castle itself was built. They harbour the strange altar as well as the generator and are considered the dominion of the crazy Professor of Technomancy & Psychoportive Sciences, Reimi Soulstar who sends out his small C.O.D.s to investigate and watch the Catacombs. Only the student Fula has come to share this domain with the Professor, taking a residence near to the generator. Naturally Reimi also has his class room, the directions for which are lit up with neon signs, and also acts as his personal laboratory and engineering bay. There are links to the underground dwarven settlement named Old Breja since the establishment of the aboveground town of Breja itself.

The Observatory

Main article: The Observatory

The Observatory is a large circular room that peaks one of the Schola Draíochta's thirteen towers. It is the only dome on the building, which is specifically made of glass to allow ample view of the sky. A huge telescope exists within the room, modified by resident inventor Reimi Soulstar to allow for an unlikely amount of clarity and increased visual range. The room itself is used to teach Practical Astronomy, which teaches students the wonders of the universe, and the wonders of many other universes.

History

Construction

The Schola Draíochta was built in the space of five years, between 28 CE and 33 CE, by the dwarves who lived under the rule of Procellifer. It was constructed to consolidate the crude refugee camp that had formed aboveground on the site of the underground dwarven town. After much deliberation, the decision was made to construct a castle moderately high on the hill, above the Catacombs, which had been built some time prior to the arrival of Procellifer. It was built to be defendable in response to the First Invasion, and so it was built thick and turreted rather than flamboyant and regal. It had broad inner grounds to accommodate the aboveground residents of Breja in the event of a siege.

Blood Wards

As part of the construction of an impregnable fortress, Procellifer went on a long journey to find a type of magick that would ensure no harm befell those under her care. The journey itself was two-fold in objective as she also intended to seek out her former handmaidens Belén Spencer and Katarina Iliep. She travelled with Killian Hughes, a Juncturist already eons old and familiar with the Multiverse. Rhiannon, Procellifer's former master, had gained her knowledge of blood magick from a grimoire she named Liber Sangomancy and Killian Hughes knew the location of it. They were absent for about a year, but returned with the large grimoire, in which had been written her spell. Killian then departed from Procellifer and the Valley before the Queen's return with her handmaidens, but would later return as a teacher. It involved a blood sacrifice upon each of the towers of the newly finished castle, so instead of taking blood from any number of willing volunteers, Procellifer used her own blood, and her own life-span, to complete the ward on the castle. In total Procellifer lost 390 years off of her long life in sacrifice to the creation of the wards. The wards themselves were centred around the towers of the castle, expanding outwards and connecting with the wards on the other towers to form one great protective shield around the castle as a whole.

Change in Function

Although the Schola was originally built as a royal residence and military defensive position, it has since been converted into an educational establishment. This was due to the overpopulation of the small village of Breja, which had expanded of it own accord and had attracted new settlers from across the Multiverse. A school was required and many felt that it would be wise to educate their children in the safest location of the entire Valley. The Queen, with her Georgian etiquette, was also deemed the best candidate for 'Headmistress'. Although the majority of Breja's dwarven children were still taught in the underground town, some were brought up to the new boarding-school, along with all the children from the newer above-ground Breja.

Most of the rooms remain unaltered except in name, but several, including the student dormitories, have had to be deconstructed using magick, and put back together again to make them suitable for use by students of any species. There are a few spaces in the Schola that have not been altered at all, including the Altar, which Procellifer holds sacrosanct and would consider blasphemy to change in any way.
