The Second Invasion was a major event in the history of the Valle Dei Mondi, so-named due to the prior invasion which became known as the First Invasion. Even when compared to the previous attack on the Valley, the more common term for the Valle Dei Mondi, the Second Invasion was the darkest period in history for the land. Mistress Procellifer, Queen of the Valley and headmistress of the Schola Draíochta called for everyone able and willing to aid in the defence and protection of the Valley against the incoming forces of Skrai and The Imperium. During the brave defence of Breja, the Valley's only town, many lives were lost including Father Phemus Reginald Smite and Syth Favardin. In the end it was Syth Favardin's sacrifice that saved the Valley, destroying Skrai's camp, the Dream Gate, The Rapine and even Skrai in a fierce explosion using a bomb designed by Fula and Reimi Soulstar that utilised the very fabric of portals.

Lead up to War
The Schola Draíochta, a school that regularly accepted pupils from across the Multiverse, was used to some unscrupulous characters, so when the cold, mysterious Skrai arrived to teach Summonings & Necromancy no questions were asked. In fact, Skrai was often seen as rather competent when compared to the standards of other teachers. However his true intention was to gather intelligence about the school, the land and the wards that protected the castle itself. He provided his services as a teacher whilst secretly acquiring information either through the vast tomes of the Library or through more dubious means, such as the hiring of a thief named Santo Bendito.
The headmistress eventually uncovered a plot against the Valley when Agnes McKay, a shamer student, accidentally accessed a glimpse of future events when studying Divination, Precognition & Their Uses under the tutelage of Professor Vielfried. In her vision it was clear that there would be a war set against the Schola Draíochta and Mistress Procellifer herself and that the enemy was a traitor. To uncover the traitor without arousing too much suspicion, Procellifer hired her old friend Father Phemus Reginald Smite who's unique charm had a way of uncovering many secrets.
Phemus, who had heard tales of Skrai before, listed him as one of two possible suspects. The second was Professor Akaras who was faithful foremost to the High Council of his own galaxy and would, without hesitation, attack the Valley upon their orders.
After discovering that the wards were built up around the thirteen towers, Skrai moved his plan into action. He had wanted to spend longer performing more research but the actions of Phemus meant Skrai had to act more quickly. He summoned his forces using the Dream Gate, a device that allows directed access to specific points in the Multiverse, so long as you had the co-ordinates. His forces then sealed off the Portal Grounds, establishing the area as his forward camp. The Rapine, an enormous airship designed for troop transport, acted as the main hub of operations for the camp and the storage point for the Dream Gate itself.
Procellifer declared Skrai a traitor and that she would never yield to him. Many rallied behind her and those that did not were either allowed to leave the castle and join Skrai, or join the non-combatants within the castle walls. Another location of non-combatants was a pocket of people that still remained in Breja, mostly the more unscrupulous characters that were determined to scavenge the town during its desolation. The area that they congregated in became known as the Rat's Nest.
Several people did leave Procellifer to join Skrai or otherwise. Including Ellechim Epia who had once, like Skrai, been a teacher at the Schola Draíochta itself. One of the teachers for Battle Magick & Gym, the Demon warrior was dissatisfied with Procellifer's rule and position at the Schola, feeling unfairly prejudiced against. In many ways this was true. Procellifer cast many restrictions upon Ellechim Epia, including the possession of her twin blades Tari & Espah, which contained the spirits of Ellechim's dead lovers. These restrictions were almost completely exclusive to Ellechim, despite the intimate bonds that existed between the two demon-women including sexual relations. Skrai, on the other hand, promised Ellechim the throne of Valle Dei Mondi. Skrai had no interest in remaining in the Valley itself, merely seeking possession and use of the Portal Grounds. The throne of the Valley itself required a female ruler, a condition set into it by Procellifer when she made it. The throne provides many gifts to the one that is considered Queen of the Valley. This, combined with the capture of Procellifer, gave Ellechim all she wanted and more.
Lisosta Xailo was another that left Procellifer. She was becoming increasingly agitated by the rules and regulations constantly forced upon her by Procellifer's regime. This animosity within Lisosta revolved around the present of a Sprite that acted as a second consciousness, named Athyik, alongside her own. This Sprite was much more aggressive in nature and had tried to take control of Lisosta's body. Despite this, Lisosta was growing much more similar to the being and believed that the attempts of Killian Hughes and Lenus Agrona to suppress the Sprite were interfering and controlling. The Drow then left and joined Skrai, who encouraged students to unleash their true selves and become what they were 'meant to be'.
Others were beguiled into joining Skrai, including Ampersand Wolf who was taken in by Ellechim Epia. The young man followed the demon to Skrai's army due to Ellechim's influence, when might not otherwise not have done.
The War
Early Skirmish
Information on enemy movements was all important for both sides. For this, small scouting parties were set up and sent out to gather intelligence. One such party was set up with Berthus of Kreta and Genichi Kasuse exploring the forest area close to the Portal Grounds and, therefore, Skrai's camp. Unlike Procellifer's forces, the majority of Skrai's military units were not familiar with the terrain and had to scout as much to gather general intelligence as enemy movements. For this the small unit of magicians, lead by Brittannia, was sent out into the very same forest. Brittannia was a General in Skrai's army, though also a cloned human being with magickal elemental powers of her own.
The two groups clashed. Genichi Kasuse, young and hot-headed, made for a one-on-one fight with Brittannia, using his Laser Emitter to create a beam sword, whilst Brittannia wielded a sword made entirely of flame. Berthus of Kreta wound up fighting the other magicians alone. After the flames had grown too intense, Berthus used his telekinetic powers to create a shield around him and Genichi to escape the ravages of the flame. This was just the first time that Brittannia and Genichi would clash.
The Battle of Breja
The Beginning
The local town of Breja was the main focus of the war, seeing the most ferocious of fighting, the greatest death toll and the loss of great leaders. Skrai knew that attacking the town would draw Procellifer's forces out of the Schola Draíochta in an attempt to protect the town as it was the Queen's charge. It would also be their only opportunity to defeat Skrai head-on, rather than from behind the castle walls in a final desperate attempt at defence. Urban warfare posed many challenges for both sides, though more so for Procellifer's defending army. Skrai's units had no fears of collateral damage.
The Battle lasted a matter of two days, with the first seeing some of the most vigorous warfare, whilst the second was the most destructive due to the use of Super-Weapons; Procellifer's Magickal Force Super-Weapon and Skrai's Blitzkrieg Super-Weapon. The first day began with rapid expansion, especially by the Lightfirean named Erosworn, who proceeded straight northwards, aiming to hold the route from Breja to the Schola Draíochta itself. Meanwhile the rest of the two armies went head-to-head.
Ellechim Epia soon wound up in combat with another teacher from the Schola; Akaras. Akaras, who was a Crystal Guardian, fought with Ellechim in a battle that grew and grew in intensity, gradually destroying the building around them. However then Jacques intervened in the battle. Jacques was one of Skrai's created beings and commanded a massive army of Orc Ghouls, who stormed the area ahead of the General. They thundered into the middle of the battle, attacking Akaras and his unit relentlessly. Akaras and his unit took down many of the ghouls, however he began to sense the drain on his much smaller unit and he sensed the end was close. Within him the being known as Glacier began to stir. Leaving his sub-commander, Biel, in charge of the unit, Akaras allowed Glacier, The Lost One, to take control. In this enormous, powerful form, Glacier destroyed the remains of the buildings around them and slaughtered thousands of Orc Ghouls that poured towards him without fear. Ellechim, along with her sub-commander Ampersand Wolf, fell back from the battle and sought refuge through the night.
Jacques then went head-to-head with Glacier himself. Despite all the speed that Jacques had, he was no real match for The Lost One and received a severe injury to the shoulder. Glacier then went on into the night, slaughtering any troops that happened to stumble across him as he made his way across Breja itself.
Whilst Jacques fought against Glacier, two members of Akaras' unit had split off to engage Brittannia. Genichi Kasuse was looking for a rematch. Tranchnyan, who had intended to chaperone Genichi, wound up engaged in combat with the rest of Brittannia's unit, much like Berthus before him, whilst Brittannia and Genichi fought. Genichi eventually beat Brittannia due to his own recklessness, leaving serious burn injuries on his hand. Tranchnyan had managed to defeat several of Brittannia's magicians, however he was allowed victory when they retreated, seeing that their commander had been captured. Brittannia was placed under arrest by Genichi and sent back to the castle.
However the real shock of the war, and turning point, was the death of Father Phemus Reginald Smite. Phemus, leading a unit of angels and two of the newer students of the Schola by the names of Astara Virgo and Gebohq. Maruyama Takahiro was also supporting the unit for a brief time, but he moved on through Breja to take the central ground before nightfall. Phemus' death occurred at the Town Square as Phemus and his group tried to retake the position to better defend the Schola. Phemus had planned to trick the young Erosworn and his heavy tank unit but when he was faced with the opportunity to defeat the Lightfirean without placing the rest of his unit in danger, Phemus entered a one-on-one duel. Unfortunately Astara and Gebohq weren't told the plan had changed. The two charged in to attack. Astara Virgo had the unique power to cause great destruction to anything non-living and intended to make full use of it on Erosworn's tanks. Erosworn's tanks fired, including one that had been locked onto Father Phemus. The priest dodged the canon fire, using a special potion that removed the inertia from an object, only to be struck by Erosworn's sword.
Upon finding himself upon the Portal Grounds, Astara met the Bug Master Takahiro. Much magick in the Multiverse is, in fact, a product of ethereal creatures known as Bugs and the bind that had been placed upon Astara's mangled, demonic arm was no exception. Believing that the bind had been placed there by ignorant magicians of Astara's homeworld. Takahiro removed the bind, allowing him to wield his destructive power. However this also led to the empowered ability that caused heightened adrenaline surge. That moment came during the battle with Erosworn. Astara's inner powers were released, changing his very form, and allowed him to wreck several tanks before he was suddenly whisked away. Phemus' last dying wish of God was that his unit, especially the boys, would be taken away from the front lines and placed somewhere safe. They found themselves close to the Doctor's Practice where Killian Hughes and Eemi Suetton were stationed to heal the wounded. Gebohq carried the now unconscious Astara to the surgery to be healed by Killian.
Nightfall
The night provided respite for many military units, allowing them rest and sleep from the horrors of war. Light, both magickal and technological, was out in Breja and the moon was hidden behind clouds. It would be little more than a pointless and difficult brawl under such conditions. However not all were so affected by the night. Ampersand Wolf, who had remained out of much of the fighting, was under the influence of the full moon. His 'wolf-side' took over and he transformed both physically and mentally into the beast. Speeding across Breja, killing many dwarven sentries en route, Wolf reached the Doctor's Practice where Killian had checked over Astara and taken a sample of his arm for study. Wolf burnt down the building, igniting the chemicals found in storage. Procellifer's medical staff, and the two boys with Phemus' angels, were lucky to escape, saved by Killian's book that allowed a glimpse at the Wolf's actions moments before they happened.
The loss of the Doctor's Practice meant that a new location had to besought out. The Hospital was the most prominent candidate, however it was located close to the front lines of Skrai's forces...
The New Day
With the disappearance of Procellifer, the incapacity of Akaras and the death of Father Phemus it fell to Berthus of Kreta to take command of Procellifer's army and attempt to stabilise the rumbling ranks and confusion.
The second day of the war started early with both sides beginning to move. Reinforcements for both armies had arrived and were in position to take on the bulk of enemy forces. These reinforcements included Skrai himself, who took on The Lost One, Glacier, almost immediately. They were two of the most powerful beings in the whole of Breja and their contest finally ended when Skrai used his gravity ring, of the Five Ring Set, to bring down the side of a building onto Glacier. Eager to push on, Skrai left the digging out of Glacier to his sub-commander, Raylan Loktorus Lammens.
Elsewhere, the major fight of the battle took part at the Imperial Breja Bank. This location had been occupied by Maruyama Takahiro the previous day and proved to be the most logical point for both sides to meet and clash. Killian Hughes and the group of medics were the first to arrive and were ready to leave without hesitation, under the protection of Gebohq's unit. Astara Virgo, who had been escorting them, decided to remain at the bank and cover the medics' escape. However it was the unlikely candidate to lead the 'charge' against the incoming enemy force belonging to Lisosta Xailo. He danced at the Drow for a mere minute before she tore him apart. Lisosta, however, knew that Thoth was capable of regeneration, having witnessed the act previously on a field trip to Albion.
Under Thoth's command were Magnus and Ralma Faustus. The siblings were new to the Valley and were reluctant to become embroiled in the warfare of the land that they had no part in. Seeking refuge they travelled to the Schola Draíochta, only to confront Ellechim Epia and Ampersand Wolf en route. The siblings were eager to find a portal out of the Valley, however, naturally they were informed by Ellechim that no portals would take them off of Odin and that they ought to seek out the Portal Grounds, where Skrai's camp now stood. Once there they were told by Drosten, a General and vassal of Skrai, that the portals were all sealed. Ralma felt that Ellechim had simply 'shooed' them with little interest in actually helping them get off of the planet. They sought shelter in the Rat's Nest, only for Ralma's desire for revenge to build-up and be targeted at Ellechim Epia. By the second day of the war they had been enlisted, receiving food, shelter and the opportunity to fight the demon.
Under these conditions, the Faustus' began their participation in the war, striking Lisosta Xailo's unit and the incoming Orc Ghouls of Jacques. Ralma fought in a one-on-one duel with Lisosta's sub-commander; Aramil. Concerned by the shadow powers of the Drow, Magnus began a spell that would nullify all magick within a certain radius, using the amplified magickal resonance of the town caused by Procellifer's Super-Weapon. It was then whilst Ralma defended her brother that she met with Ellechim Epia again. But there was no fight. Word reached Ellechim that Skrai's Blitzkrieg was due to hit and retreated from the area. Figuring the reason behind the demon's retreat, Ralma took Magnus away from the bank as soon as he finished releasing his spell.
However there was more to the events at the bank. Before the medics retreated, Eemi Suetton cast a holy spell in an attempt to shun the Drow, however this spell also caused a seal upon Astara Virgo's demonic arm to break. He began to transform, taking on more demonic qualities over the whole of his body. In an attempt to counter this transformation Lisosta Xailo allowed the Sprite within her to take over and both were poised for an epic battle of incredible powers. However, it was then that the Blitzkrieg hit the bank. All those that hadn't escaped were seriously wounded by the shelling, including Athyik, the Sprite, who hadn't responded to the information about the bombs sent to her. Takahiro, the most capable healer of those at the bank, was rendered unconscious by the rumbling of the bank itself, trapped inside.
Elsewhere, Raylan Loktorus Lammens discovered that Glacier was far from dead. Raylan had once been a lord of a city on his homeworld of Cascadia, however when he chased the supposed bandits that destroyed the city he was eventually led to the trail of Skrai himself. After travelling the Multiverse, however, Raylan was consumed by anger and hatred, leaving his mind weak and susceptible to Skrai's ability at mind control. Taking possession of Raylan, Skrai made him a commander in his army. Raylan maintained some level of his own mind, and hated himself for his own actions, acting on the very things had come to despite when searching for the Overlord. Every day Raylan had hoped would be his last and he would be killed in battle but never did. Then, when Raylan saw the power of Glacier he knew he could end his life now. He attacked Glacier with all the power and ferocity at his disposal.
Now guarding the Town Square was the cyborg Sakuro and one of her clones, Serenity. They were joined by Groundskeeper Frey, who saw herself as Procellifer's immediate guardian. They were soon met by Erosworn, who was still determined to retake and hold the Town Square. The Lightfirean General, who had gained the rank due to his success over Phemus the previous night, was pushed back, however, when faced with the superior technology of the Sakuros. When they retreated it was Frey that gave chase, aiming to keep them from returning. Skrai's Blitzkrieg, however, struck the Town Square, sparing Frey but not the Sakuros. Injured and facing the returning tanks of Erosworn, Sakuro flew away, carrying her unconscious clone, and headed towards the Hospital.
Shortly the Sakuros were joined by the medical staff, Killian Hughes, Eemi Suetton and Gebohq. The doctors and healers got to work immediately, trying to heal the cyborgs as swiftly as possible, believing that they would have many more injured soon.
Genichi Kasuse had been joined by his team of police cadets from Terra, The Arm & Luna, including Valentine Fellin. They had been prepared to attack the Lightfirean reinforcements led by Erosworn's sub-commander Malcolm Arrow. However Malcolm blundered and led his troops straight into the line of allied shells, Skrai's Blitzkrieg. Disabled by his side's own attack, the cadets had thought they would have an easy prisoner, however they, just like Malcolm, blundered and were hit by their own side's Super-Weapon too. They were pushed by the Magickal Force and found themselves within the same area as none-other-than Skrai. Fortunately for the cadets they were joined by Gebohq, who was under the influence of the Meta-Story.
Gebohq, protected by the Meta-Story, fought with Skrai, who was incredibly interested in the powers that the boy seemed to have and his Plot-Hole Gun. However when reports of a breach came through to Skrai, he knew his main camp was in danger. Ultimately he decided he needed to save the Dream Gate, which held so much information for The Imperium that he couldn't afford to loose it. He left the battle and sped back to his main camp at the Portal Grounds...
Personal Vendetta
Prior to the second day of the Battle of Breja, Mistress Procellifer, distraught by the loss of Father Phemus, her friend, confidant and lover, strode down to face Skrai alone. She had removed the refineries of her life and cast herself in her old Amazon fabrics. She would tackle Skrai and claim vengeance. Knowing she couldn't beat the Ethereal Overlord physically she plunged into a shared consciousness, intending to beat him there. She found, however, that he was, if anything, even stronger there. After stalking her through many images and scenes, Skrai eventually trapped her within her own mind, leaving her body noting more than a drooling husk, devoid of emotional response.
He, however, had likewise underestimated the power of her mind. Her subconscious kicked into overdrive and she was met by Father Phemus. Whether this was a spiritual apparition from beyond the grave, or a mental projection used by her own subconsciousness, she could never tell. Phemus guided Procellifer through the depths of her own mind, over-coming the desire for war, her own guilt, hatred, the past dead, desire for vengeance upon traitors, the home of legendary heroes and mythological beings, pain, the loss of Phemus himself and finally the choice of forgetting everything or living on with painful memories. All this was constructed and displayed through metaphorical images that eventually broke the prison holding her within her own mind.
The rescue
Some time after Mistress Procellifer's disappearance, Berthus, as the newly appointed commander of the army, hatched a rescue plan to win back the Queen before his secondary plan took effect. For the rescue several volunteers were chosen, almost all exclusively students of the school. Led by Bathild Vardæus, the group formed up in Reimi's Catacomb's Classroom under his teacherly gaze. Reimi's clones, F.R.A.N.K. (First Replica and Novice Kahuna) and the two A.V.R.I.L.s (Aurora Vigilaus Replicated 'Ickle Lifeforms) were also assigned to the mission. Frank went equipped with the new invention, A.N.N.I (Atypical Negative Negotiations Incentive) and spent most of his time being saved by the other students. Niila Jordanus requested to join because she believed she could reason with the enemy, however through her experiences of the rescue mission, even Niila found her mind swayed, confused and ultimately twisted at the end. The majority of the fighting was set to be undertaken by Bathild and the Raijin girl Taranis as they were both the most competent of fighters. Kader Novak and Nkuma Nigeroculus were tasked as 'go-betweens' and support, aiming to seek out Procellifer and flee with her from the enemy camp. The last member of the initial team was Oda Yumiko-Ai who appeared very out-of-place. However she transformed into her Tsuchigumo form and became a valuable asset to the team.
As they travelled through the woods close to Breja, able to hear the battle of the second day raging, Frank was attacked by mysterious wire tendrils that writhed as though they were alive. He was saved by Bathild only to end up confronting the source of the wires; Monde. The metallic machine-woman almost killed many of the group before Nkuma cast her magick to send Monde into a separate dimension. Having to remain completely still to maintain the spell, Nkuma was left behind with Kader as guardian.
Before the remaining group reached the enemy camp they were met with the newly reincarnated Thoth, who had developed a talent for invisibility with his new body. He led them into the camp where they had to sneak past the remaining Squic Army troops, only to find another member of Procellifer's army engaging the camp enforcers. Syth Favardin was attacking the camp alone. To back up Syth and draw attention, the team joined the old gladiator, except for Thoth, Frank, Niila and the Avrils, who went to find Procellifer. However no sooner had they released the Queen than they were discovered due to one of the few flaws in Thoth's invisibility; the sense of smell. Domie Neitrycks attacked the group as they fled out of the camp, but Niila saved them by using her water powers to blast the 'cat-girl' creature away. Procellifer used her advanced powers to splatter the troops overwhelming those the team had left behind. Before they departed the camp, however, they were in time to see the final sacrifice of Syth Favardin as he entered the Dream Gate wearing a device designed by the student Fula and created by Reimi Soulstar. The device caused the portal to implode and wipe out the camp, causing the team to flee before they were also caught in the blast.
Frank bore witness to Skrai's death. As the Overlord returned in a last ditch attempt to save his camp and the Dream Gate, he was caught in the blast with a final roar of anger. Skrai himself left no remains, only the magickal equipment he carried was left behind; the Zhi-Hao Blade & Liu-Rong Sheath, The Orb and the Five Ring Set.
The End of the War
The end of the war came with the funeral held in the honour of all those that died, especially Father Phemus Reginald Smite and Syth Favardin. Mistress Procellifer then made a grand speech to a large gathering and proceeded to forgive those that had betrayed her during the war, inspired as she was by her experience when trapped in her own mind. From this the likes of Erosworn and Lisosta Xailo were forgiven and allowed to return to the Schola Draíochta. However the affair was interrupted by Dragão Geral de Caos, one of Skrai's highest ranked generals. He sent private messages to Lisosta and Erosworn, whilst apologising to the Queen and informing her that he had to return to The Imperium and attempt to maintain the stability of the empire. Erosworn refused the general's request to rejoin him and The Imperium, whilst Lisosta accepted and would later leave the Valle Dei Mondi to aid in the Imperium wars raged throughout the Multiverse.
Breja spent a long time in restoration, with many students, new and old, helping to fix the town. Even those once loyal to Skrai, including Erosworn and Drosten, were seen helping to rebuild the town. Drosten was even accepted as a teacher for the school, which he considered an attempt at repaying his debt to Procellifer and the Valley.
However, for The Imperium, the battles were only just beginning. Politically the empire was in danger, weakened by the loss of its Overlord, and political stability was threatened. Several worlds began to rebel and seek their former independence. Some were simply lost along with Skrai, to whom the lands were specifically indebted to, including The Kingdom of Albany, Drosten's land.

Kalor Varkesh is the only one of Skrai's creations that is capable of making its own decisions and, if necessary, refusing an order from Skrai himself. When Skrai did return Kalor took part in many of his conquests until he joined the Second Invasion of the Valle Dei Mondi and the Schola Draíochta.
