Taranis is a yellow-skinned Raijin from the world of Dagda. She has powers over electricity as well as mental abilities, however she has little control over either of them. She is strong-willed and aggressive, which gets her into fights, arguments and dangerous situations. She is also sexually promiscuous and, combined with her aggressive nature, she is becoming a hazard for other female students.

Species
- Main article: Raijin
The Raijin are a humanoid species from the planet Dagda, which they share with two other main subspecies, Ryujin and Fujin. The most distinctive features of a Raijin are the head tendrils and the large zigzag tail. The Raijin age faster than most species, a thirteen-year-old may appear more like a twenty-year-old human. They're known for their incredible speed, reflexes and ability to create electricity. A race of Raijin are also blessed with powers of the mind, such as telekinesis and teleportation.
Homeworld
- Main article: Dagda
The world of Dagda is a small Terran planet, consisting of oceans, great continents and varied forms of flora and fauna. It holds several sentient subspecies that all share a common ancestor, they are the Raijin, Fujin, Ryujin, Savitr, Mani and Svarog, each separated by racial defined boundaries and countries. The three most prominent subspecies reside on the northern bound continent and minor islands, whilst the others live on the gold rich southern continent, which has a much more inhospitable climate and terrain.
Characteristics
Personality
As a child Taranis was always domineering and, in many respects, something of a class bully. This ability to dominate others held in her mentality as she grew older and nothing was done to stop this bad behaviour. Even now many of her actions can be viewed as bullying. She enjoys fighting, the exhilaration being a highly attractive feature as well as the pleasure in victory. However it is this fighting streak that has quelled most of the bullying nature in her, focusing it down this combative route, in which she has had to taste loss and defeat, making her a more rounded person. And yet she is still aware that she can get what she wants through force and intimidation.
It is, however, Taranis' sexual aggressiveness that earns her infamy throughout the Schola. Although she is aware on some level that her actions are less than appropriate, she often only realises this at the last moment. Her mind becomes focused upon the singular course of action. Had she a true evil streak, she might have done a lot worse.
She doesn't make friends easily because of the aggressive nature, yet this is something she takes pride in. Those who she befriends she values as true friends and sees them as being as strong as her in some way, whether it be spirit or strength.
Taranis is simple-minded. She hates studying and reading, much preferring the practical and active. This translates into her classes, where she will be found bored and tired during academic lessons, but enthusiastic and active during the practical. Her philosophy is that she leaves the thinking to the smart people, and they should leave the fighting to her.

Powers & Talents
- Main article: Raijin
Raijin have genetic-given power over electricity. They are able to generate and discharge it in greater or lower levels of concentration, lighting something as small as a light bulb or causing a catastrophic lightning storm. This is all dependant on the capacity of the individual Raijin, however, some being incapable of anything more than a small spark per hour, though this is just as rare as high-end powers. Raijin can only create their own electricity, not manipulate other sources. However electricity, regardless of origin, tends to be more attracted to a Raijin, often twisting or bending to hit them.
A smaller racial trait of certain Raijin is the control over powers of the mind. Electrical power is considered a standard feature of Raijin biology, however advanced mind powers are much rarer. All Raijin have a certain degree of telepathy and telekinesis, however, like the electrical powers, it depends on the individual Raijin as how to powerful their mind talents are.
Storyline
Place of Birth
- Main article: Dagda
Benten is the capital city of the Fujin, located along the northern-most shoreline. It suffers from cold weather and is considered small by comparison to other great cities in Anemoi, however the Fujin see Benten as their historical home and have not considered the possibility of changing the capital city of choice.
Early Life
Childhood
The community that Taranis grew up in was large. Most Raijin are raised with a great family around them, however Taranis' parents had left the family home and moved to the capital of Parjanya. This meant that the young Taranis was raised with little family support, whilst those around her were growing up with aunties, uncles and cousins living in the same communal building, often in the same row of homes. This kind of seclusion left Taranis with a deep sense of longing to be a part of something. This is where the bullying originated. By asserting her dominance over the other children at school, Taranis became a key figure in the school year and received special treatment from the other kids, albeit through fear.
Teenage Years
When she reached eight, the age at which Raijin enter adolescence, Taranis found her sexual orientation. This was largely helped along by another girl, Erith, that was equally interested in Taranis. This relationship lasted through much of their teenage years, though both could hardly be considered faithful. Yet it was Taranis' powers that were drawing the most attention from the teachers of the school. She proved to have a great store of electrical energy that was difficult for an adult to control; in a hormonal teenager it spelt serious trouble. However the powers of the mind had yet to surface despite genetic evidence suggesting their existence. Often she would loose control of herself and something would be destroyed, another would be injured, or, more embarrassingly, someone would experience an electrogasm before the entire school. When this occurred to a teacher, an incident put down as accidental despite evidence Taranis had done it intentionally, the school had to expel her.
Instead she was sent to the prestigious school of Manannán. It was rare for a single Raijin to possess so much power, even more so for an untrained teenager. This earned her the place at Manannán. The school had few students of her own age, now ten, though she soon found that she had never felt so at home. Most students were separated from their families by coming to the school and so Taranis never had the feeling that she was being left out, everyone was in the same situation. It was at Manannán that she developed the taste for combat, an activity the school encouraged, believing it would help to focus her mind and her powers. Indeed, Taranis managed to control her powers much better than before, however she still proved incapable of complete control and her mental abilities were still far below the mark. Some of the teachers were assigned to monitor her and keep check of how her powers were developing on a genetic level.
With so much focus on her powers, the teachers largely allowed her to get away with things that other students wouldn't. Taranis was still sexually promiscuous and forceful in her sexual advances upon other women. It had been reported several times that the Raijin had molested students in the female shower rooms and yet little was done. Many incidents went unreported. Not all rejected Taranis' advances and it is suggested that she had a prolonged relationship with a Ryujin woman, named Dechtine Engres, who was several years older than herself.
Adulthood
School of Manannán
Taranis was in the unique position of being considered a 'first year' for two years, until she reached the age of twelve, the normal starting age for students of Manannán. The school is considered a centre for adult learning and most below twelve were studying at normal schools. Only a select few reached Manannán, which was considered the best adult school in Dagda. It was when Taranis reached this official first year that she met Aveldro Olwen, a Savitr woman that had been allowed to enter the Manannán school. Although their relationship was passionate and sexual, in Taranis it meant more. She saw a world beyond those of Hotei and the Ryu Islands, where the three major subspecies of Dagda lived. It was believed by the teachers of Manannán that this relationship brought out the keener kind in Taranis and allowed the first real examples of mental ability to surface.
However when Taranis reached thirteen, she was still far below the talent of everyone else at the school, despite also having the greatest potential. The molestation charges against Taranis were also mounting.
Developments in technology had led to the discovery of the Multiverse in the Fujin research centres. Their research led to the discovery of the Schola Draíochta, which, to them, was a school for peoples across the Multiverse. It was engineered that Taranis, who had proven of great educational need, should be sent to the school both to represent the people of Dagda but also as an example of how much raw power could be found in Dagda. This was from fear that others may wish to come through the Multiverse to invade Dagda, so the display of power was deemed important and helped improve Taranis' selection for candidate.
Only after she was chosen did Taranis learn she was to be sent. With the help of Aveldro, Taranis had already broadened her mind but was still given a great deal of caution by the Fujin scientists. Her primary task for them was simply intelligence gathering. They wanted to know all about the kinds of people and creatures that came to the Valle Dei Mondi and whether anyone posed a threat to Dagda. It was also told to her that she had been chosen because they didn't want to risk offence to the school if they sent someone with a more polished background; the Fujin people were already familiar with the concepts of psychic power.
The Schola Years
Taranis initially viewed her time at the Schola purely as a research project for the scientists of Anemoi. She felt she would gain little save for the exposure to strange cultures. However in just a short time, Taranis became enthralled by the practical aspects to her education, able to fight strange beings in a variety of ways. She also began to seek 'exotic pleasures' in the women of the Valle Dei Mondi. Her lifestyle continued just as it had during her time at Manannán.
Unlike the teachers of Manannán, however, the teachers of the Schola Draíochta proved to be a much more influential source. Berthus of Kreta, the teacher of Telepathy, Telekinesis & Clair-senses, showed Taranis that someone could be both strong of mind as well as of the body. Taranis had never really taken an interest in testing her mental powers except when pressured, however under Berthus' tutelage she found herself believing more in her psychic powers than she ever had before. She has begun to nurture the philosophy that one must be strong of mind to truly be strong of the body, although she has yet to take up studying and still prefers physical exhilaration.
Meeting Ellechim Epia, the teacher of Battle Magick & Gym, was initially a great moment for Taranis. Ellechim proved to be both beautiful, strong and aggressive, just like Taranis imagined herself. However Ellechim was a poor teacher with personal problems that she allowed to interfere with her teaching, creating a bad attitude and spoiling Taranis' image of both Ellechim and herself. In some way, this made Taranis question the direction she wanted to take in life.
The third most important teacher that Taranis met was Isis Ve'ilyera, who taught Manipulation of Lightning. Taranis thought that the teacher was cute, however it was Isis' constant field of static that really interested the Raijin who would experience an electrogasm from a high-level barrage of electrical contact. Taranis attempted to force herself upon the unsuspecting teacher and only managed to control herself, as usual, at the last moment. Once again Taranis had to question her direction in life and has since tried to keep her sexual affairs to other like-minded women, though Taranis has little real control over her own emotions.
During a late night beach party, held against the rules of the school by the incubus Cinéad Ophiuchus. It was here that Taranis met up with her friends, Genichi Kasuse, Vann Distrid and Ampersand Wolf. However she also met Lenus Agrona, a man curious about the Raijin's physical make-up. Using his powers, he tapped into the inner workings of Taranis' body. He thought he had done this without her knowledge, however when he hit an electrical vein he was zapped and sent flying. Seeing this as some kind of invasion of her person, Taranis took offence and began to fight with the medical student. Lenus was rendered unconscious and when the grounds-keeper, Frey, came to break-up the party Taranis, along with Vann Distrid, had to cart the unconscious boy away.
With so much energy contained with a Raijin's body, they naturally have a very different biological make-up than many other species. One medical problem a Raijin may experience is an electric thrombus, which is a clot of the electrical current through their own electric veins. Taranis unexpectedly experienced such a clot and was rushed to the infirmary by Father Phemus and treated by her enemy, Lenus Agrona, and Killian Hughes. Taranis, however, was unconscious and didn't realise that Lenus had been one of the ones to save her life; leaving them both with a debt to one another with neither of them realising.
